What are Pocket Bikes?
Pocket bikes are the newest passion for wheel-crazy Californians -- tiny motorcycles called pocket bikes -- and with their raspy exhaust note, pocket bikes sound like a crazed battalion of wasps coming down the street at hubcap level.
Pocket Bikes are designed in class and style of a mini-motorcycle. Its well-built aluminum frame gives it an elegant look of a racing style bike.
The little bikes weigh about 50 pounds, stand about a foot and a half high and can easily be put in the trunk of a car. They have tiny engines 47cc or 49cc displacement, less than 1/20th the size of a big motorcycle. And they are enticing.
Although pocket bikes would also look fine on your mantle as an impressive centerpiece, the pocket bikes shine best in competition. Depending on the model and HP, performance varies: The smaller industrial-motored models are capable of speeds of over 35 mph, the average 4.2 hp and 6.2 hp racing models achieve about 40-45 mph, and open class machines can clock over 50 mph!
While offering astounding performance, the reason a pocket bike is such an incredible racing machine is it's size. These machines can often go faster in m.p.h. than they weigh in lbs. - think about that; showing up at a race with your ride under your arm. No trucks or trailers to transport your racer - just pop it on the backseat or in the trunk. It fits quite nicely even in the back of a 'Vette', but yet make no mistake - these pocket bikes(mini-motorcycles) are ultra-legal fast and competition tough.
The more powerful pocket bikes aren't made just for adult or more experienced riders, but are in fact built for adult racers, and only for the younger racer who possesses a high degree of training, skill, and dexterity. While they may look entirely physically proportional sitting on them, younger children may not be able to safely operate the full-sized hand controls.
One of the most exciting and yet inexpensive forms of motorsports, pocket bike racing is currently very popular in Europe and Japan...and now, pocket bike racing is coming to the US. | Pocket Bikes
